In a weeks time Emma-Sky and Lucian will be one month old. So much has happened since the moment my water broke, I can not believe April has come and gone. Lucian's nose still needs time to heal and it upsets me. I just hope it's not causing him pain and will heal as if it never happened. Now I know to ask every time I'm there how Emma's nose is holding up because she has the same oxygen machine he had been on.
Lucian is up to 4.5 ccs of breastmilk along with the support of IV fluids as well. He's still intubated but that's mostly to let his nose heal. His numbers have been stable and he's usually at about 28% O2, 30 breaths per minute. I love when they have him on his side or on his tummy. He looks very content and comfortable this way. He has much more hair than he did before - blonde with some light brown, just like Daddy. I feel like they both look so much like him. One night when I was describing how Emma-Sky's face reminds me of his he jokingly replied, "so you're telling me I look like a one pound little girl?" ;) It is amazing that even though they're this tiny I think Emma has his eyes and there are moments when I literally see her face flash before me when I'm looking at him. She's doing really well with her breathing - between 21% - 23% O2 with only 10 breaths per minute. They started her feeding again since all tests were negative for infection. They began at 1.5 ccs and have come up to 4ccs as of last night, a little aggressive I think but we'll continue to watch her stomach and ask questions. There are some nights that Lucian gains 40 grams (every 30 grams is one ounce) and last night he was 1 pound, 15 ounces - close to two pounds! Emma is about 1 pound 9 ounces still, she lost ten grams last night but they do tend to fluctuate. She was on her tummy sounds asleep when we went last night, her blonde hair beginning to come in more and more. She tends to keep her mouth slightly open, always playing with her tongue and opening and closing her little mouth. For now we can only rest our hands on them and let them know we're there. I want to be able to hold them and have them home, the house full of that "baby smell". This summer will be a special one - full of love and sunshine and family.
