My Mom and Grandma came to the hospital with us today. It was their second visit. Emma-Sky and Lucian were calm, stable and content. They both opened their eyes and are doing well. Emma-Sky was on her tummy when we got there but she didn't look very comfortable to us so I asked her nurse if she could put her on her back and she did. Lucian was on his side and looked cozy in his blanket.
After you get to know the nurses in the NICU it's easy to play favorites. I trust that everyone there is capable of taking care of them but there are some that just have a way about them, a genuine love for what they do. One nurse in particular has Lucian quite often and she talks to him all the time and is so gentle with him. She makes us laugh and tells us all about him. We thanked her the other day for being the way she is with him and her reply was simple. "It's my job, and if I don't love what I do I don't belong here. This is what I love." There are a few other nurses that we love as well because of how much they know, how patient they are, how much they keep us informed. These are the people that get to be with our babies all the time so it's so important to us that they're in the best place they can be in. We love them and want desperately to do all we can to protect them.
We also wanted to take a moment to say thank you for the comments you leave, the prayers and hugs you send our way. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
