Emma weighs 5 pounds as of last night. She is partially bottle feeding for each feeding and then when she gets tired they give her the rest in the feeding tube. They are giving her 28 ccs every three hours. She will get the rest of her immunizations today. Once she can handle all of her feedings by bottle and gets up to full feedings she will come off IV supplements. These are our goals for her for now in order to be discharged. She is still on neocate and will probably be prescribed that when she comes home.
Lucian is 5 and a half pounds now. He is able to take 50 ccs by bottle. He still desats during feedings and were not sure why. Reflux? Chrinic lung disease? The brain still being immature and not being able to handle breathing sucking and swallowing? His hernia is tremendous and the surgeons have to determine if he'll have that surgery while he's there now or as an outpatient. We're hoping they will do it now. His nose will need to be taken care of later on in life at a hospital where there are experts dealing with preemies such as nyu or cornell in manhattan.
I fully expect to have them home within 10 to 14 days.
